Penetanguishene Council Approves New Zoning Bylaw, Pushes Short-Term Rental Licensing Conversation to Future Meeting

14 May 202216 May 2022

A new comprehensive zoning bylaw, which will limit where short-term rentals can be located in the Town of Penetanguishene, was approved during a council committee meeting on May 11.

The updated bylaw states that short-term rentals will be permitted only in the downtown and waterfront zone — an area that encompasses a small section on either side of Main Street from Poyntz Street to Beck Boulevard. They will not be permitted in residential neighbourhoods.

However, short-term rentals already established will be “grandfathered” in and can apply for a licence even though they don’t conform with the new regulations.https://6299a7acd2cb5b0fd50e8fce9e38419e.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

A short-term rental licensing bylaw, which would require operators to apply for a licence, pay a licensing fee, and follow a code of conduct was deferred.
