Owen Sound Council Delays Vote on Short-Term Rental Bylaw

29 June 202230 June 2022

Owen Sound council postponed debate and a vote on Coun. John Tamming’s motion to ban some short-term accommodation rentals in residential neighbourhoods until city staff provide councillors with more information — not expected for six months.

City Mayor Ian Boddy concluded everyone agrees “the city needs to do this right, we need to look at options . . . We need to have the right decision and not fly by the seat of our pants.”

At any given time, there are 20 to 50 short-term rentals in Owen Sound listed on Airbnb, including apartments, townhomes and single-unit homes, according to a city staff report in March.
